How to get involved
Citizens Advice Bromley receives significant help and support in the form of voluntary assistance, both in advising the public and administering the charity. Volunteers are carefully selected and follow a well-defined training programme to enable them to fulfil their role effectively and contribute to the future direction of the organisation.
We greatly value the contribution that our volunteers make to the successful operation of the organisation and need volunteers with a range of skills to provide the service. Skills include: financial, administration, advisors, gateway, receptionists and trustees. We offer a training programme for new volunteers who wish to become gateway assessors and advisors which lasts for a period of approximately twelve months to achieve national accreditation. We also offer training and support in other areas and ongoing skills development.
Volunteers are central to our service. We offer a variety of volunteering opportunities, working with the public, helping with the huge number of office tasks that are essential to keeping the bureau running smoothly or working on social policy issues. We currently have volunteer vacancies for receptionists and administrators, qualified Gateway Assessors and Advisers, and social policy workers.
We offer a structured training programme for people who are not qualified in CAB roles and who would like to train as a Gateway Assessor or Adviser. Our training programme consists of a formal learning programme of 14 weeks, 2 days attendance at external courses and
lots of supervised practice. We hope to have people fully trained as Gateway Assessors in about 26 weeks.
Training to become an Adviser usually takes a further 9–12 months to complete the training and become qualified. In view of the length of training involved we would prefer if volunteers can commit to volunteering for the bureau two days a week. We also have vacancies for admin/receptionists. Full training is given. We would therefore prefer if people can give at least two days a week for at least a year.
Please note we normally recruit from people who live within the London Borough of Bromley and near environs and who are available to work during school holidays. If you are interested, please contact Susan Ryall, Volunteer recruitment at firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to hearing from you.
